San Sebastian city of culture: San Telmo Museum, Balenciaga Museum and Guided Tour
SAN SEBASTIAN BREATHES, TASTES AND SMELLS OF CULTURE
In 2016, San Sebastian was European Capital of Culture. Donostia, the Basque name for the city, is a cultural reference thanks to its wide variety of museums, galleries, sculptures, exhibition centres and its prestigious festivals: the International Film Festival (Zinemaldia), the Heineken Jazzaldia and the Classical Music Fortnight, among others. And don’t forget its gastronomy, today famous all over the world, or the Basque culture and its language, one of the oldest in Europe.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit us and enjoy the culture!
The San Telmo Museum, opened in 1902, is the oldest in the Basque Country. This 16th century Dominican convent renovated to become the Museum of Basque Society and Citizenship is an essential visit for learning about the Basque culture.
The pretty seaside town of Getaria is home to the Balenciaga Museum, the first of its kind designed around and dedicated to one of the fashion world’s greatest geniuses: the couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga. The museum has a permanent exhibition of designs giving visitors the essential keys to Balenciaga's work, and also organises temporary exhibitions addressing different aspects of his creations.
