San Sebastián has three main late-night areas, each of which has its own identity. One of the most popular is the Old Town, the area that never seems to sleep. During the day it is the haunt of ‘txikiteros’ (groups of men and women who have little glasses of wine and pintxos), while at night it turns into a lively bar scene hotspot.
The Calle Reyes Católicos, behind the Buen Pastor Cathedral, is little more chic, with its modern bars and somewhat more daring music. The street has been pedestrian since the late 20th century and the terraces of bars with all sorts of different atmospheres abound.
Those preferring a relaxed, intimate atmosphere should head to the young district of Gros, where bars are more spread out.
